Antithesis Model Ten

Tinea and Leah: [Cyberpunk, Alien Incursions, Murder and Mayhem, Girl's Love (WLW)]

Antithesis Model Ten is a specialized Antithesis unit defined less by direct combat power than by its role within a mature hive. Its appearance transforms the battlefield from a loose gathering of hostile creatures into an organized biological settlement: the Model Ten units are caretakers, and their presence indicates that a larger Antithesis structure has taken root.

Form and Physical Characteristics

Antithesis Model Ten is described as a small, monkey-like alien about the size of a child. It has six five-fingered arms, no legs, and no head, giving it a body plan far removed from ordinary human anatomy. Small blades are attached to the backs of its double-thumbed hands, but these weapons do not compensate for the unit's limited physical strength. Its unusual construction emphasizes that Antithesis bodies are organized around specialized functions rather than a human standard of completeness or mobility.

The Model Ten's agility is more notable than its power. It can climb with remarkable ease, using its many arms to move through the environment despite having no legs. In combat, however, it is not considered a serious individual threat. Its size and weakness make it vulnerable when isolated, even though its hands provide a modest offensive capacity.

Function Within the Hive

The principal importance of Antithesis Model Ten lies in its labor. Tens manage feeding pools and inspect the growth sacs in a proper hive, performing the maintenance work required for the colony's continued development. They therefore occupy an ecological and organizational position rather than serving primarily as assault troops. Their bodies are adapted to caretaking, inspection, climbing, and movement around the hive's living infrastructure.

This function makes the Model Ten a diagnostic sign for the larger Antithesis system. When Leah encounters fifty Tens among other Antithesis forms, she recognizes that the site is not merely occupied by wandering units. The Tens' presence indicates a proper hive, with established feeding pools and growth sacs and with enough internal organization to require dedicated caretakers.

Encounter During the Hive Assault

Leah encounters Antithesis Model Ten during a large engagement in which she runs wide circles around a mass of Antithesis units, using the movement to gather them into a whirlpool while her two turrets cut through the concentration. The battlefield contains Threes, Fours, Fives, Sixes, and numerous Ones that repeatedly dive-bomb her pod. Leah's electrolasers reduce the Ones, sometimes with the help of redirected quills from the Fives.

The fifty Tens stand out because Leah has not seen their type before. They are present in large numbers, but their attacks are not what makes them significant. Their weak bodies and child-sized proportions limit their ability to damage Leah directly, while their climbing ability allows them to move rapidly through the surrounding structure. Their behavior nevertheless confirms that Leah is close to an active hive and that the colony is openly defending it.

Leah consequently connects the Model Ten population with Antithesis Model Twenty-Two. When she asks whether the Twenty-Two has taken root, Tynea confirms that it has probably converted itself into a nest. The Tens thus provide indirect evidence of the Twenty-Two's transformation: they are the visible caretaking population generated by, and required for, the rooted hive's expansion.

Strategic and Narrative Significance

Antithesis Model Ten demonstrates that the Antithesis are not a simple stream of interchangeable attackers. Their different models participate in a division of labor, and the appearance of a supposedly weak unit can reveal more about the strategic situation than the presence of a powerful combatant. The Tens expose the colony's reproductive and logistical depth: feeding pools, growth sacs, caretaking routines, and a settled hive rather than a temporary swarm.

Their encounter also shows how Leah and Tynea read nonhuman organization through battlefield evidence. Leah initially evaluates the Tens by strength and threat, finding them unimpressive, but their real importance lies in what they signify. The Model Ten is therefore both a creature and an index of Antithesis development. Its body embodies a narrow biological task, while its presence marks the point at which an Antithesis incursion has become a self-maintaining nest capable of supporting further growth.
